The prophet Haggai’s preaching, found in the book of Haggai, emphasizes obedience and prioritizing God’s work. After the Babylonian exile, the Israelites returned to Jerusalem and began rebuilding the temple, but opposition and personal concerns led them to abandon the project. Haggai, sent by God, challenged the people to “consider your ways” (Haggai 1:5, KJV), urging them to resume the temple construction instead of focusing solely on their own houses and comfort.
Haggai’s messages include calls to action, rebukes, and promises of God’s presence and blessings. He reminded them that their struggles were due to neglecting God’s priorities, and he assured them that, if they obeyed, God would be with them and bring greater glory to the new temple. He also foretold a time when God would shake the nations and fill His house with glory (Haggai 2:6-9, KJV), ultimately pointing to a future Messianic kingdom.
Through Haggai’s short but powerful messages, God’s people were encouraged to restore worship and honor Him above all, showing that God blesses obedience and that His presence brings strength and hope.
