A Church That Sounds Out: Faith, Joy, and Waiting for Christ

Preaching from 1 Thessalonians 1:6-10, Pastor Chris Parker traced the background of Paul’s letter to the church at Thessalonica, planted during Paul’s second missionary journey despite fierce persecution. He noted that Paul wrote with joy after receiving an encouraging report from Timothy about the church’s continued faithfulness. Second, their testimony “sounded out” like a trumpet across the region, evidenced not just in their words but in their daily lives, making them an example to other believers. Third, their conversion was marked by genuinely turning to God to serve Him, not merely turning away from sin – true salvation reorients a life toward active service. Finally, he emphasized that the chapter closes, as does much of the letter, with believers waiting expectantly for Christ’s return from heaven. Pastor Parker closed by challenging listeners to honestly examine their own hearts: are they truly saved, faithfully serving God, and living in genuine anticipation of Christ’s coming?
