G.I. and Singles Ministry: A Strong Community of Faith and Fellowship
At Maranatha Baptist Church Okinawa, we have a thriving ministry specifically designed to meet the needs of young military personnel and singles, both civilians and G.I.s (those serving in the U.S. military). This ministry has become a cornerstone of our outreach, offering a place where young adults can find faith, fellowship, and community in the midst of their unique challenges and opportunities.
Sunday School at Gray Hall
Every Sunday, the G.I. and Singles Ministry gathers at Gray Hall for their own Sunday school. This is more than just a time of learning; it is a space for open discussions, spiritual growth, and building strong, faith-based friendships. The lessons are tailored to address the unique lives of military members and civilians, helping them navigate life with Christ at the center while living in a foreign land.
Free Breakfast and Lunch
In an effort to further support the G.I. and Singles community, our church also provides free breakfast and lunch every Sunday. This not only meets a practical need but also serves as a meaningful time for fellowship and connection. Sharing a meal together deepens relationships and strengthens the sense of family among the group.
Game Nights and Fellowship
Beyond Sunday mornings, the ministry hosts regular game nights, which provide a fun, relaxed environment for fellowship. These events offer a chance to unwind, share laughs, and deepen relationships with one another. Fellowship is at the heart of what we do, creating bonds that go beyond church walls and stand the test of time.
Organizing Trips and Serving the Community
The G.I. and Singles Ministry also organizes trips, giving members a chance to explore the beautiful island of Okinawa and build memories together. These outings strengthen the sense of community and provide a break from daily routines. In addition to this, the ministry actively seeks ways to give back, helping other churches in the area and supporting outreach efforts throughout Okinawa.
A Family Away from Home
Being stationed far from home can be difficult, especially for those serving in the military. This ministry acts as a “family away from home,” offering support, encouragement, and a place to belong. Whether it’s through Bible study, shared meals, or simply spending time together, the G.I. and Singles Ministry strives to embody the love of Christ in all they do.
