Bringing the Church to Every Door

The Bus Ministry is one of the most visible and impactful outreaches of Maranatha Baptist Church. Every Sunday, our drivers fan out across Okinawa to pick up children, families, and individuals who have no other way to attend church — and bring them through our doors to hear the Word of God.

This ministry is built on a simple conviction: transportation should never be a barrier to the Gospel. Whether it's an elderly neighbor, a child from a nearby neighborhood, or a military family without a vehicle on the island — our buses go where the need is.

Founded alongside the church in 1968, the Bus Ministry has seen generations of Okinawans come to saving faith in Christ after first stepping onto one of our buses. What starts as a ride often becomes a life transformed by the Gospel.

The Process

How the Bus Ministry Works

A simple, faithful process that has worked for decades.

1

Routes Are Planned

Bus captains survey neighborhoods and establish regular pickup points — apartment complexes, street corners, and community centers across Okinawa City and surrounding areas.

2

Doors Are Knocked

Each Saturday, bus workers go door-to-door on their routes — inviting families, reminding regular riders, and building personal relationships with each household.

3

Buses Roll Out

Sunday morning, our drivers depart early to make every pickup on schedule. Every rider is greeted by name. Every child feels expected and welcomed on board.

4

Church Happens

Riders attend Sunday School, Morning Worship, and special programs tailored for bus kids — fun, energetic, and Christ-centered. The Gospel is clearly presented every week.

5

Home Safe

After services, every rider is returned safely to their pickup point. Bus workers continue building relationships and praying for each family on their route.

Why It Matters

Lives Changed by a Bus Ride

The bus is more than transportation. For many, it is the first contact they have with the local church and with the love of Christ.

Children Reached

Hundreds of children across Okinawa have first heard about Jesus because a bus driver knocked on their door and offered a free ride to church.

Families Connected

Many parents have come to faith after seeing the change in their children. The bus ministry opens doors into entire families.

Military Members

Young service members stationed far from home often arrive in Okinawa without a car or community. Our buses bring them in.

Cultural Bridges

The bus ministry crosses language and cultural lines — Japanese, American, Filipino, and Okinawan riders all share the same ride and the same Gospel.
